CEO Update – 21st February 2018

Dear Members,

I am pleased to say this month has seen a good number of enquiries about membership to the chamber.  Both from local and out of town business’s.  I acknowledge how tough the economic environment is on all business, no matter the size or the sector, but I have also heard some businesses are thriving and this is great.  Always look at the positive.

I would like to mention Ultimate Watersports who are located down on the foreshore, that business offering extreme water experiences and the clear kayaks. They have recently been acknowledged as  finalists in the world awards out of London,  among some of the credentials required was customer service which is exceptional.  We look forward to the final results of these awards, but once again a young company from Geraldton showing the world how to do a tourism venture.

Also our member Phil the owner of Abrolhos Steel has been inducted in to the Swimming Hall of Fame for his mammoth effort of swimming Cottesloe to Rottnest butterfly, the only man to ever do so.  Legend.

We also bid farewell to our friend Angelo Biviano who worked with Bankwest here in Geraldton.  Angelo left town on Saturday morning for a new role in Perth and Adelaide, we wish him all the best for his future and thank him for the support he has given the chamber over the years.

The Dongara Dennison Sub Committee are hosting a gathering next Tuesday night to form a new committee, we will be meeting Tuesday 27th Feb at the Rec centre at 6.30, any member who is interested in being involved or finding out more about the direction of the chamber in Dongara Dennison is asked to attend.

Tourism Geraldton has actively been speaking with both local and state governments about opportunities for tourism growth in our region, these meetings have been very positive and great outcomes are in the sights of this group which is the cluster set up by Progress Mid West.

Our new Events manager Sarah is busy working away at producing her first Business After Hours.  This will be next Wednesday night 28th Feb at Shine Aviation at the airport, I don’t think we have ever had an event in a hangar, however these events have sometimes contributed to a hangover.  We are very excited to be hosted by two great business’s Crammer & Neill and Shine Aviation.  If you haven’t registered quickly do so, limited places still left and you won’t want to miss this.  Good Luck Sarah for your first event.

The chamber has some exciting events coming up so keep on the lookout for those announcements.
