CEO Update – 10th October 2017

Dear Members,

Wow only two weeks till the next Mid West Economic summit, tickets are now available, we have a great list of presenters and speakers. Although the resource industry is going feature in this event, so come along and hear what the industry is planning on going forward. Also Minister McTiernan will be addressing the state governments vision both state and regional outlooks.

The MWCCI Golf day is this Friday and it looks like a great day with a few good laughs assured, good luck to all teams.

Last Friday I was asked to MC a RSM Business Local’s event The Changing Face of Customer Service. What a great event and the turn up for it was marvellous. Speakers were local business people and all presentations were of a very high standard. Many notes were taken and new ideas gained. Business Local give great free business advice, supporting local small business’s.

Thursday last week saw Chloe, Ross McKim (CEO of CGG), Tai Nukunuku (Sou Chef from the Emerald Room) and myself be taken on an extraordinary flight by Shine Aviation. We were lucky to have such a nice day and the skill of pilot Paul Pettet. We initially flew up the coast line spotting migrating whales and calfs, then over the spectacular Pink Lakes, wow they were incredible. Then we flew across and over the Abrohlos Islands, stopping at Big Rat for a morning cuppa and then back to Geraldton airport. I would like to thank John Gooch and his team for taking me for a looksie.

Today we hosted the Innovation Expo, this forum saw 20 or so companies who have a range of innovative technologies come to Geraldton and show their wares, everything from flow meters to remote pumps to the latest remote operated technology. This was the first such event that the chamber hosted and look forward to having them all back again next year.

Extended trading hours for Geraldton have been gazetted and so shops can now trade to them, however an official launch of the trial will be on November 5th. In the meantime, I would like to ask all participating retail stores that open to please advise the chamber of what hours you intend to operate. I will publish the results so that you all have a consensus on week and weekend hours. The CGG are presently working on a campaign to support retailers and a pack of goodies to help dress their shops.

I would also like to draw your attention to the expression of interest for supply of antenna for the SKA, more information enclosed.

Have a good week and make it great, enjoy golf of Friday.
